Synergy FC Alumnus Dermot Hughes signs with Philadelphia Union affiliate Reading United AC (PA).
Reading United defeated the New York Cosmos in US Open Cup play last week.
Dermot played for Synergy FC from age 9 thru 18 and he commuted from Proctor, VT to the Shelburne/Burlington area (1.5 hours each way) during that time.
Dermot plays collegiately for Philadelphia University.
Reading United AC plays in the PDL (Premier Development League) and is directly affiliated with the Philadelphia Union MLS Team.
The Union has a three tier system with the Bethlehem Steel (USL) and then Reading United (PDL).
Players from each tier are routinely selected to cross train among the three squads. The coaching staffs are evaluating and sharing player ratings among each squad in order to move players up and down accordingly.
“Dermots goal is to play at the professional level. Receiving an offer to play for Reading is a big step in that direction. Reading has promoted dozens of players to the MLS and other professional clubs,” commented SFC Director Hugh Brown.
